Reset Generation
Mobile, Windows PC
Funny, but neither the mainstream- nor the enthusiast press have covered "mobile games" all that much -- probably because the quality of mobile gaming content thus far has been about as headline-worthy as "Innovations in Ketchup." Reset Generation is set to change all that.
Princess Bride Game
Windows PC
Water-fetching, cliffs that'll drive you insane, unusually large rodents, blathe, land wars in Asia, omitting a wheelbarrow from a list of assets... sound familiar? Princess Bride Game brings it all back.
Painkiller: Overdose
Windows PC
If 2004's Painkiller made you giddy with hellfire catharsis, this expansion pack just might be the nostalgic revisit you need. That is to say, also, Painkiller Overdose sure feels like a 2004 game, but that's not necessarily a bad thing.
Rainbow Six Vegas 2
PlayStation 3, Windows PC, Xbox 360
It could have gone some other way, but Rainbow Six Vegas 2 exemplifies the sequel done right. It's new but not radically different from the original, adding instead just a few key mechanics that you didn't know you wanted, subtle yet key and forever required hereafter.
Lost: Via Domus
PlayStation 3, Windows PC, Xbox 360
If you were trapped on a deserted island, you would definitely want to have a copy of Lost: Via Domus with you. You'd need it to keep the fire going.
Frontlines: Fuel of War
Windows PC
Frontlines: Fuel of War is certainly a competent near-future warfare shooter. It even sports a cool ROV gimmick. However, considering the glut of great shooter games out there these days, Frontlines does little to stand out.
Company of Heroes: Opposing Fronts
Windows PC
Though "stand alone expansion pack" is something of an oxymoron, Company of Heroes: Opposing Fronts nonetheless expands on the original Company of Heroes to great effect. Plus, you don't have to own the original game to play this one. Follow?
Pirates of the Burning Sea
Windows PC
Just a handful of years ago, pirate-enthusiast gamers were really getting the short end of the plank; they had few choices, and half of those had either already been around a long time or were just weak. Today, thanks largely to the pirate-mania resurgence fueled by a certain movie franchise, wannabe Sparrows have options again -- and Pirates of the Burning Sea is one of the best.
